Why Consider Remento Alternatives?

No matter what you choose, you're doing an important thing. The goal of this article is to find what works best for you and your family. Everyone is different.
Some people need video. Some people (like me) would feel very camera shy and awkward videoing myself.
If you've heard of Remento and are considering alternatives, here is a quick way to find out what's best for you.

Factors to Consider

When evaluating memory preservation platforms, we considered the following:

    •    Subscription Model: Does the platform require ongoing payments?
    •    Time Limit: Is there a deadline to complete the storytelling process?
    •    Final Product: What does the end product look like?
    •    Media Formats: Can you include text, audio, video, or photos?

For fairness, we only included information from people who have used the platform and are not social media influencers. We also included information directly from their own websites.

Remento Overview

Remento is a video and audio platform that uses weekly prompts to help grandparents video record or audio record their memories. These recordings are transcribed with AI (Artificial Intelligence) into written stories, which are then compiled into a book. Each story includes a visible QR code at the top that you can scan with your smartphone linking to the original audio.

  • Subscription Model: Yes. You can't record new stories without an active subscription. The subscription is monthly or yearly.
  • Recording Method: Video and Audio. No Writing.
  • Book: Color
  • Language: English and Spanish
  • Extra Color Copies: $69 (at time of writing)

Other Remento Reviews:

Disclaimer: I have not purchased Remento myself, so I can't give a full review. I looked on Google for a few written article reviews and they are quoted and linked below.
I removed anything that was obviously a paid ad or an influencer paid to promote a product.

According to an article on savvygiftersguide updated Jan 5, there was a limit of 1 photo per chapter. I tried looking on Remento's website if they removed this restriction since then but I couldn't find anything. Once they do, please let me know and I will update this. They also mentioned additional fees for storage, but I also couldn't see anything on Remento's site about additional fees, so I'm not sure.
A review from PCMag, a very reputable site, has a review as well. This review is a bit older, but the site itself is well known.

If you don’t want AI to do the writing or recording Circa Legacy offers to do it all for you.

Circa Legacy is much more expensive at $3,500. You get a real person to interview you for 4 hours, and then they edit it after they pull the transcription. It's up to 100 pages in a hardcover book, with up to 40 photos.
This is for people who want a polished, professional product without having to do the work themselves and are willing to pay the money.

My Stories Matter’s interview service is slightly more expensive but includes almost 3x the number of interviews for a longer book that can span your whole life. It's inclusive of services such as photo restoration and enhancement.

Pick Circa Legacy If:

  • You just want to be interviewed.
  • You want a full-service experience with minimal effort on your part.
  • You’re willing to pay a premium.
